The Politics category is based on county data for the 2020 presidential election. Selecting either Republican or Democrat will look for cities, located in the counties where the corresponding party had the majority.
The Crime Index is a value calculated from the most recent entries of the offences known to the law enforcement for each city. The value of 1 corresponds to average crime rate in the United States. The value of less than 1 means that the city is safer than an average city in the United States.
The Distance to Nearest College category looks for cities that are within the specified distance (in kilometers) from a college or a university.
The Unemployed category refers to the percentage of the population that was unemployed at the time that the data was taken
The Income Per Capita refers to the income (in dollars) for each individual of the population.
And the last 5 categories refer to the ethnic composition, in percentage.
Each category has a slider next to it, to select how important it is for you that your criteria for that category are met. Move the slider all the way to the right, if that category is very important, and all the way to the left if it is not important at all.
After clicking “submit” the Exodus Index will be calculated for each city based on these choices, and the results will be displayed in a new tab. The highest possible value of the Exodus Index is 1, and this represents the perfect fit to your preferences — the perfect place for you to live. The lowest value is 0, and this means the opposite.
The results may also be mapped by clicking the MAP link, located above the results. Each city will be marked by a red bubble, size of which corresponds to the value of the Exodus Index.
Currently, Alaska and Hawaii are nor considered. If you’d like to see other categories, or suggest improvements, please leave a comment.
